🌈a MUTUAL AID FUNDraiser🌱

Black transgender and gender non-conforming people often live in extreme poverty, with 34% reporting a household income of less than $10,000_year..png

…USING THE POWER OF SOCIAL MEDIA!

From the 2015 U.S. Transgender Survey Report On the Experiences of Black Respondents, we learned 38% of Black respondents were living in poverty. With 24% of Black people in the U.S. Population living in poverty in this country as a whole (James, S. E., Brown, C., & Wilson, I.:3). More than 1-in-3 folx? 1-in-4 folx? The issue is systemic.

Our response needs to be communal.

ARTISTS, TIME TO USE OUR GIFT! THIS IS A CALL TO ACTION!

the cause:

By posting to your stories, you call your community to action & raise awareness for the NEED for more mutual aid funds.

+ Art Rat Theatre will pledge $10 per entry, for up to $50.

+ Art Rat Theatre will also match the first couple donations, for up to an additional $50.

+ If you can donate in increments of $20 or more, we highly encourage you to directly send funds to beneficiaries with posts on one of these mutual aid pages: @mutual.aid.hub, @newwxrldnetwork, @redistributeurwealth, @openyrpurse! Psst…screenshot your donation and invite your social network to match it! Tell them mutual aid is needed!)

* A NOTE ON MUTUAL AID ETIQUETTE:

If you are going to donate directly, please keep your direct-to-beneficiary mutual aid contributions at increments of at least $20 or more.

why? hERE’S a well-written mandate for mutual aids from @openyrpurse/@funds4caregivers:

Q: what if i want to donate but can’t donate the recommended increment?

A: we need to be aware it can be triggering for folx who are asking for mutual aid to receive small increments like $1~5, or worse, to receive no response at all.

But we also know that it can be new for you to budget for mutual aid funds, particularly if you’ve never done so before. You may not be prepared to donate more than $20 at a time at first.

And yes! Small increments can still add up!

+ ANY and ALL donations sent directly to Art Rat Theatre during this time (for whatever reason; micro-donations < $20 welcome!) will be pooled and re-distributed to calls for aid posted by the following mutual aid pages: @mutual.aid.hub, @newwxrldnetwork, @redistributeurwealth, @openyrpurse in increments of no less than $25.

  • Donations can be sent to Art Rat Theatre via our venmo or paypal.

  • All Art Rat donation tracking can be found here.

  • Reminder: Donations in increments of $20 or more are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to be sent direct to the beneficiaries via their posts on these & others’ mutual aid pages. Pooling funds is most useful to enable smaller increments to stack together.

THERE ARE CALLS FOR mutual aid EVERY DAY.

Any funds sent to Art Rat Theatre will be re-distributed DIRECTLY TO POSTS BY the following mutual aid pages (click here for receipts).

LIKE THESE PAGES, WE TOO WILL BE RE-DISTRIBUTING with priority given to Black trans & queer folks, incarcerated folks and single caregivers (sent in minimum $25 increments.)

PLEASE first consider DONATing DIRECTLY USING THE BENEFICIARY’S PAYMENT INFORMATION available on these pages (please give in $20 increments or more!)
